Clever Female Halloween Costumes
So, Barbie and Ken have split up. The media made such an ordeal out of it after Mattel announced that the famous couple has decided to go their own ways. Surprisingly, people were upset about the announcement of female halloween costume ideas. Mattel reported getting lots of emails from upset fans over this decision. To those people, I say, Barbie and Ken are dolls. They are not real. You can still play with them and make-believe that they are a happily married couple.
For some, the original Batman series is unparalleled for its colorful and clever and cutting-edge elements, its first-time ever used comic book “sounds” (Bam! Zonk! Kapow!), its serialized nature (playing on the old radio shows, etc.), its stellar star lineup. My brother was riveted to the TV in those first years, watching The great Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt as Catwomen, Egghead, Mr. Freeze, and the Penguin try to out-wit the witty, out-do the duo. I watched less faithfully, but always, always stayed in the room for the bookworm and the Riddler, my absolute favorites. (I was intrigued by the contraptions the Bookworm, Roddy McDowall, had for reading—despite how he also made time for crime; I was fascinated by Frank Gorshin’s hideous hyena giggling, his derisive and mocking laughter, his adept activities, his green bodysuit with the question marks, and, of course, his clever yet felonious riddles.)
About two years back, I was shopping for female halloween costumes in the local mall with my daughter. We were in dire search of a great costume for Halloween. As we entered the Disney Store, she spotted a Beauty and the Beast costume. This was it. I’m talking golden moment here. She loved the character of Belle. I can’t remember how many times she had viewed this film, but it was probably a few more than I can count. In short, she wanted that Beauty and the Beast costume so she too could be Belle for a night. I was all over the idea.
For still others, the 19997 Batman & Robin will be memorable not only for Uma Thurman’s slinky and sexy Poison Ivy rendition but for the appearance of the IceMan as he was played by (California Governor) Arnold Schwarzenegger, the innocence or naiveté of a Robin played by Chris O’Donnell, or the darkly deep of a Batman played by the ever
